To extend its reach among young consumers, Hearst Magazines has acquired teen social-networking site eCrush.com for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition is yet another sign that publishers realize teens are spending more time online, and are therefore shifting their efforts toward digital to better reach young consumers, Ad Age writes.
For similar reasons, Hearst sites CosmoGirl.com, Seventeen.com and TeenMag.com will get a new look next month, along with new content and functions.
"As social networking and interactivity online become an integral part of teenagers' lives, we want to be everywhere they turn," explained Chuck Cordray, VP-general manager at Hearst Magazines Digital Media.
