To promote the film The Messengers, Sony is offering a new ringtone that is literally for teenagers only - because only they can hear it.

The ringtone cannot be heard by adults over the age of 25 - and so ties into the theme of The Messengers, in which a child can sense and hear things that her parents cannot, iMedia Connection reports. "The fact that only kids can hear it winds up being a thematic fit with the notion in the film that her parents don't believe her," says Joe Epstein, executive director, worldwide digital marketing strategy, Columbia TriStar Marketing Group.

The ringtone, which is available for $2.49 from the movie's website, is just one interactive aspect of Sony's marketing for The Messengers. Sony is considering creating a diary on social-networking site Xanga, instant-messaging capabilities for the movie's main character, and a toll-free number that will give callers updates on her situation.

The Messengers opens on Feb. 2.
