MTVN Goes Bananas with Mobile Content

Bananas

MTV Networks has announced plans to launch a mobile subscription-based service called Bananas, featuring short video clips from MTV, MTV2 and mtvU (including snippets from the shows Laguna Beach, the Real World and Two-A-Days), along with an assortment of ringtones and wallpapers.

Bananas - available initially as either a $5.95 or a $9.95 a month service - will be MTVN's first attempt at selling an MTV-branded service directly to consumers, MediaWeek reports. MTV already partners with MVNO Amp'd Mobile to develop its growing mobile offerings.

MTV officials say the company’s ability to relate to younger, more mobile-savvy users gives it a leg up in the segment. "We know that our audience is looking for great viewing experiences on multiple screens and we're focused on creating quality entertainment they'll love for mobile," explains MTV president Christina Norman.

"MTV has a unique advantage in this space thanks to our extensive experience with creating video our audience connects with, and we're excited to offer that to our viewers on mobile."
