Reuters has added video clips to its mobile site, making it the first news service in the U.S. to offer video content to mobile users. The clips will cover business and headline news, and a total of 20 clips will constantly rotate, ClickZ reports. The mobile service is, for now, optimized for only a few phones, such as the Nokia E62, Palm 700w, and Blackberry Pearl.
Reuters will also sell pre-roll ads against the clips, mostly 15-second spots, which will begin running next month. GE has signed on as an advertiser; it's sponsoring articles in an eco-business category. The buy spans the regular Reuters site as well.
Reuters claims pageviews in the "single digit millions" per month for its mobile site, with year-over-year traffic up over 300 percent as of November.
