Autobytel has entered into an agreement with AOL Autos to become the exclusive fulfillment channel for AOL users looking for new-vehicle price quotes from local dealers; it is also considering selling off some units.
As part of the agreement, Autobytel will integrate its proprietary lead-distribution technology with AOL's automotive channel to provide consumers with AOL-branded price quotes. AOL Autos car shoppers could already research the make, model and trim options on new vehicles, read reviews written by leading auto industry critics, and compare options from one model to another. The partnership now allows AOL Autos users to also obtain price quotes from local dealers.
"When it comes to online automotive lead fulfillment, Autobytel has long been one of the industry's leaders," said Rudi Thun, Director of the Autos Channel for AOL, in a statement. "The combination of AOL's strong consumer experiences and audience with Autobytel's comprehensive nationwide dealer network and state-of-the-art lead distribution system will help further our mission to empower our users."
To focus on its internet- and media-centric strategy, Autobytel is also exploring strategic alternatives for some business units, including alliances with complementary businesses or divestiture, Autobytel also said in a statement.
"As we continue our mission to be the leading online automotive destination for consumers and the premier internet marketing specialist for dealers, we are looking to optimize the potential of each of our business units while establishing a relentless focus on our core business goals,"said Autobytel President and CEO Jim Riesenbach.
"Both RPM (Retention Performance Marketing) and AIC (Automotive Information Center) are strong businesses with talented, committed employees and growth potential, and we believe that these businesses may be best served through alignment with companies that will allow them to reach their fullest value."
