JupiterKagan: Microsites Becoming More Popular

Microsites, focused mini-sites within larger websites, will become more popular with advertisers in 2007, a new study suggests.

The study, conducted by JupiterKagan, notes that promotional microsites will become more popular with larger advertisers during the next year, E-Commerce Times reports. The study notes, "While only 30 percent of companies whose annual revenues exceed US$500 million used promotional microsites in the past year, 45 percent of such companies plan to use them in the coming year."

The movement toward consumer-generated content will be an important component of microsites, the report adds. Such sites are dependent on viral promotion, and allowing users the ability to add their own created content is a great way to engage users and get them talking about the campaign.

Also, companies can use blogs, content-sharing sites, podcasts, video and RSS feeds to promote their microsites. Moreover, instant messaging will be given more attention as a promotional tool for such campaigns in the future, according to JupiterKagan.
