AOL Gives away Video Search APIs

To increase its presence on websites and blogs, AOL has opened up its video search engine to developers.

On Monday, AOL released a set of APIs, or application program interfaces, for building and integrating video search-driven applications into websites and blogs, CNET reports. The goal of the Time Warner subsidiary isn't for developers to alter the existing platform but to make it easier for the engine to be spread to sites outside of AOL's services.

To facilitate access to the APIs necessary to spread the video search engine, AOL has created the Video Search Developer Center. The site also includes examples of applications already developed with the new APIs.

AOL is making the APIs available in both REST and AJAX formats.
