Conde Nast Pitching 'Flip' Teen Site

Conde Nast is building a new site for today's sophisticated and ambitious teenage girls, in whose lives the online world plays an ever-more important part.

Online division CondeNet is apparently pitching advertisers for what is a kinda secret new type of social-network site - called Flip - for "fueling teen ambition," according to presentations cited by AdAge. The site targets business-minded teens, citing a survey according to which more than half of teen girls want to be celebrities or go into business, more than a third want to be a fashion designer. Flip is intended to "give girls a chance to realize their dreams and get discovered," the materials say.

Users create galleries called "flipbooks" using photos and other content, and also use Flip how-to's to learn how to "make something to show off or sell." Teens would likely also create ads for their products. Advertisers would also be able to post flipbooks and sponsor others.

Flip will compete with TeenPeople.com and ElleGirl.com, the print editions of which were recently deep-sixed.
