Net2Phone Sues Skype for Infringing on Patent

Net2Phone has filed a lawsuit against eBay's Skype, accusing it of patent infringement and seeking a permanent injunction and damages, writes Reuters. The suit by the internet telephone unit of IDT Corp. was filed late last week at a federal court in Newark, New Jersey; it claims that Skype infringes Net2Phone's patent number '704 on point-to-point internet calling.

IDT bought Net2Phone in February. Luxembourg-based Skype was acquired last year by eBay for $2.6 billion. Representative of neither Skype nor Net2Phone would comment.
