Ask.com Launches Blog and Feed Search

Ask.com has launched its new blog and RSS feed search - available both on Ask.com and parent IAC's Bloglines service, reports ClickZ. The blog search results will not immediately feature ads. "We're focusing on driving usage right now," Ryan Massie, senior product manager at Ask.com, is quoted as saying. The new search results could increase traffic to blog publishers, including ad-supported and corporate blogs.

The Ask.com blog search results will include links to subscribe to the blog or feed directly from the results page, using Bloglines, Google, NewsGator, Yahoo, or other RSS readers; users can also post the results to their own blog, or to social media sites such as Digg or del.icio.us. The new search feature is the latest from the new Ask.com, which underwent a redesign and rebranding in February.

This is the first time since IAC acquired Bloglines a year ago that Bloglines search will feature Ask.com's ExpertRank algorithm, formerly known as Teoma. ExpertRank gives more weight to links from other sites that are in the same category as the site being linked to.
