New York Times Co. newspapers' online ad revenues, including those for the New York Times, Boston Globe, and Sarasota Herald-Tribune, surged in February - up 23 percent from a year ago - though overall ad revenue was all but flat, reports MediaPost. About.com's February ad revenue also soared, to $5.4 million, up 75 percent compared with February 2005.
The company also reported more than 450,000 subscribers for TimesSelect, the paid service launched last September, providing subscriber access to some two-dozen op-ed and news columnists. Around 62 percent of users receive the service as an add-on to home delivery; 38 percent pay around $50 a year for the product.
