HarperCollins to Digitize Books, Create Library

HarperCollins Publishers said this week it would create its own digital library of its book and audio content and make it searchable by consumers on the internet, allowing users to search the archive via search engines, including Google, and retailers like Amazon.com, reports the New York Times. The move is intended to allow News Corp. unit HarperCollins to maintain control over digital content rather than cede it to others, such as Google.
