The mobile media market is on the brink of a boom, according to executives at the Reuters Advertising and Media Summit yesterday, writes Reuters (via MediaBuyerPlanner). As people spend more time with their mobile devices, and depend on them for more, mobile video, in particular, could prove to be the next big thing.
"I like the wireless content space," Bain & Co. partner David Sanderson is quoted as saying. "I'm also a believer that cellular television is going to be real."
As wireless telephone operators are looking for ways to expand revenue beyond phone calls, mobile TV, music and web surfing are becoming more prevalent.
Companies such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel are providing news and entertainment via video clips to cell phones. Disney's ESPN sports network is setting up its own cell phone service that will offer sports clips and news.
