Yahoo provided a brief glimpse - apparently an unintentional one - into its RSS search efforts on Friday when bloggers found a test Yahoo site for searching RSS feeds, reports PCMag. Steve Rubel's Micro Persuasion blog featured screenshots (click on adjacent figure) of the site, which was taken down within hours of being found out. Yahoo's move comes less than a month after its announcement that it is acquiring blog-tracking firm blo.gs and could pose a serious threat for Technorati and Feedster, which concentrate on feed and blog search.
A Yahoo spokesperson would not confirm or deny the existence of the site or provide details about the firm's RSS search plans. At least three bloggers were able to conduct and document some queries on the search site.
Ask Jeeves earlier this year bought Bloglines, a popular Web-based RSS aggregator, and said it planned to build blog-focused search.
Rubel said Yahoo's foray into RSS search would likely raise the profile of RSS.
