News Corp. said it intends to ratchet up its lobbying efforts against Nielsen's local people meters, media measurement systems that more accurately measure individual's media consumption. A group News Corp. created called Don't Count Us Out has been trying to get media companies, media buyers and even congressmen to stop Nielsen from rolling out the new methodology. The group even managed to get some racial advocacy groups to back its claims that the new technology discriminated against blacks, or later, Hispanics. Studies done on the methods do show one point of discrimination the system harbors - proving to be a disadvantage to insanely wealthy Australian media moguls whose media properties have been over measured by the older generation of media monitors. The Don't Count Us Out group intends to lay out even more money than it did last year - when it spent about $5 million - and move much of the campaign online.
