Onlypunjab.com: Yahoo Launches Premium Personals Service
Yahoo is attempting to stratify its dating service market by offering a premium service (with a 75 percent higher premium price) geared to more serious relationship seekers. The move seems an attempt to fend off eHarmony.com, a relatively recent upstart that is ranked sixth in dating traffic generated but that is one of the top leaders in revenue generated. eHarmony.com charges roughly twice the rate of other services and makes users take a very long series of tests in an attempt to more rigorously match users. Until now, the major dating services have concentrated on fending off the increasingly cluttered market of low-end and niche dating sites. Hitwise data reports that eHarmony.com visitors tend to be in the 25 to 34 age sweet spot, whereas Yahoo's audience tends to be either older or younger, and much poorer.
