Desktop Search to Come to Mac, Maybe

Reuters: Google Plans Desktop Search Tool for Apple PCs

Reuters reports that Google CEO Eric Schmidt told a UCLA conference on the 35th anniversary of the Internet that the search giant intends to create an Apple Mac flavor of its Desktop Search application. The release might take some time, though, as the software would need to be re-built from the ground up, indicating that Google hasn't yet started the effort. But several PowerBook-toting reporters at the conference say that the Reuters correspondent must have misheard the answer. They report that Schmidt's answer was vague at best.
