Google's Desktop Search Causing Privacy Angst

eCommerce Times: New Google Search Tool Sparks Privacy Concerns

The inevitable happened: stories are appearing about privacy angst around the new Google Desktop Search application. The application, designed to collect and hold just about all personal information on a computer, can be readily abused by people who share computers. Some have suggested the application should not default to archiving instant messaging conversations and other information, in order to protect computers like those found in web cafes. But it does seem unlikely that someone installing Desktop Search for illicit purposes would be thwarted by a default setting.
