Microsoft Submits Anti-Spam Standard

CNET: Microsoft to submit antispam standard

While their lawyers are getting along, happily targeting and suing spammers together, the technical staff at Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL seem to be communicating largely by press release, the latest one coming from Microsoft announcing that they're submitting an anti-spam standard (one at odds to the one announced by Yahoo yesterday) to Internet Engineering Task Force, the main email standards body. AOL, not to be left out, says it will have its own version soon.

All of the standards target the ability of receiving email servers to identify email senders with confidence. The common approach seems to indicate that the companies consider authorship knowledge to be the key factor in controlling spam.
