MarketingVOX discovered, deep, deep down in the new Google IPO filing, that the new disclosures reveal a major missed opportunity for Microsoft. In October 2003, Microsoft or another company seeking instant search credibility could have licensed Google's PageRank technology - which is actually owned by Stanford University - and prevented Google from continuing to be the exclusive licensee. In October, Google locked up the license until 2011. Also revealed in the filing was the fact that the President of Stanford University will sit on the Google board of directors.
