FDA to Change Drug Ad Regs

Ad Age: FDA TO UNVEIL NEW DTC DRUG AD RULES THIS WEEK

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon publish its new guidelines on pharmaceutical advertising. Currently, online advertising benefits from not having to comply with print regulations that require advertisers to use the bulk of the creative to list stultifying disclaimers and medical facts. Rather than foist these largely unread portions of creative on online advertisers, the new regulations are likely to liberalize the traditional media requirements.

Oddly, the television regulation changes are said to center on the FDA asking drug companies to voluntarily use a portion of their media buys to promote unbranded messaging about disease conditions.
