Apple Computer reported yesterday that its third-quarter profits more than quintupled, reaching $320 million, or 37 cents a share, largely as a result of booming iPod sales, reports the New York Times. The company sold 6.2 million iPods in the third quarter ended June 25 - nearly a million more than the previous quarter, and six times the number sold in the third quarter of last year. Apple's revenue for the third quarter was $3.5 billion. For the same period a year ago, its earnings were $61 million, or 8 cents a share, on revenue of $2 billion.
