AOL has begun streaming the critically acclaimed independent film Darkon at its film site True Stories, giving viewers the chance to see the film for free before it is released to theaters.
The film will be available for free with ads, or can be purchased as a download without the ads, MediaWeek reports. Progressive Insurance is running video ad spots within the film, which documents groups of real people acting out fantasy and role-playing games while in costume in and around Baltimore and Washington D.C.
AOL's True Stories service was launched last month and offers a variety of documentaries, along with additional footage catering to indie film buffs. The channel also offers blogs and message boards where fans can discuss the documentaries.
Most of the films are available for purchase from $1.99 to $14.99 each.
