America Online has signed 10 new content partners, including parent-company property CNN, in a bid to keep up in the video search engine race, CNET writes. AOL's Singingfish, one of the web's oldest multimedia search engines, will now have access to searchable video feeds from, among others, Atom-Films, CBSNews.com, MarketWatch and Hollywood.com. Singingfish, which signed a deal with Reuters last month, has faced mounting competition from Yahoo, Google, Blinkx and others.
Those search companies have unveiled video search capabilities via deals with many of the same content providers signed by Singingfish, and some could soon challenge the company in the music search arena. Singingfish's advantage could come from parent Time Warner, which owns vast amounts of content, including a film library from Warner Bros.
"We see huge opportunities for growth in audience, engagement and advertising by making video a powerful and natural part of our content efforts," said Kevin Conroy, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AOL Media Networks, in a statement released today.
