AOL announced it will stop providing support for access to internet newsgroups, the original internet forum format. AOL subscribers can still access the widely read forums through other interfaces, such as Google Groups. The move signifies that AOL put a low priority on the very large quantity of ad inventory created by the special, AOL-branded access to the groups. This may be because AOL already has more than they can sell currently, or it might be because discussion group inventory has traditionally been among the lowest performers for direct response advertising.
