AOL Launches In2TV Video Service with Online Ads

AOL today launched In2TV, one of the web's largest free video services, offering vintage shows and short clips supported by online advertising, reports Reuters. At launch, the site's four advertisers are Intel, Kia Motors, Kraft Foods and Hershey. In2TV will feature thousands of shows from sibling Warner Bros., which owns the rights to shows such as "Welcome Back Kotter," "Kung Fu" and "Eight Is Enough."

"It's from the strength of the online advertising market that we can bring free on demand (videos)," Kevin Conroy, executive vice-president of AOL Media Networks, is quoted as having said. AOL sold out its initial forecasts for the amount of advertising inventory on In2TV, which it has now expanded, Conroy said.

AOL, Time Warner's online division has in the past year revamped itself into a free online portal relying heavily on on-demand video to challenge Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Apple. AOL plans to expand In2TV to include paid downloads as well as a subscription service.
