AOL, HBO Partner on Broadband Comedy Channel

AOL and HBO are partnering to launch This Just In, a new broadband comedy channel that will debut next year with video content, comedy performances and blogs to allow user feedback.

The partners say the channel will also provide a outlet for social commentary and urban comedy, which HBO is known for, while also helping to discover new comedic talent, MediaWeek reports. This Just In will replace AOL's existing comedy channel, and is part of a trend of comedy-themed sites, such as Comedy Central's Motherload, MTV's AtomFilms.com and NBC's new DotComedy.com.

AOL will handle the ad sales, which will include interactive ads as well as placements within site content.

"This venture will leverage AOL's online expertise and HBO's established reputation for comedy to provide a unique, engaging site for audiences across the web," said Jim Bankoff, AOL's EVP of consumer and publisher services. "What's more, for advertisers, this is the first time they can connect to the HBO brand."
