AOL Ad: Spam's OK for Celebrities

A new AOL 9 ad shows Sting spamming random instant message users, foisting on them pieces of his new video. Thanks to reader Trudy Schuett for pointing out the new spot:

A variety of people are getting messages from StingFan01 thru their AIM. The people remark, "Who is this guy?" In one case there's an answer, "I don't know, but he really likes Sting." Then you see a bit of the video. Next shot, Sting is in the back of a limo with a laptop, apparently sending out more. Then, all the people are watching the video and smiling.

The running of the ad was probably not intended as an endorsement of random spamming, even for celebrities, but does show that the marketing group at AOL is still the same old bunch of entertainment executives trying their hardest to learn about this new Internet thing.
