America Online's ad revenues increased $333 million in 2005, or a 33 percent year-over-year increase, but that was more than offset by a 10 percent, $722 million decrease in subscription revs, reports ClickZ. Advertising.com ad revenues for the year increased by $162 million, and paid search increased by $116 million. Full-year revenue at AOL fell 5 percent, to $8.3 billion; its fourth-quarter revs decreased 8 percent from the year-ago quarter, down $171 million, to $2.0 billion.
AOL lost 625,000 U.S. members in the quarter, and 2.8 million throughout 2005, ending the year with 19.5 million U.S. members. In Europe, AOL ended the year with 6.0 million members, 108,000 fewer than in the previous quarter and down 287,000 from a year ago.
Time Warner Cable added 265,000 residential high-speed internet subscribers in the quarter. AOL recently signed high-speed internet deals with BellSouth, Time Warner Cable and Verizon and launched a national ad campaign promoting high-speed AOL service.
