According to CEO Eric Schmidt, Google's Android mobile platform is on a trajectory toward mainstream adoption — something that will position Google to definitively dominate the mobile search market.
"Android adoption is about to explode," proclaimed Schmidt during the company's Q3 earnings call. Since the launch of T-Mobile's first-ever Android phone last year, there are now 12 Android phones across 32 carriers in 26 countries. The most recent of these is the Motorola Cliq.
Mobile searches on Google rose 30% from Q2, though Schmidt declined to say how many mobile searches there are total, or what percentage Google represents of that figure.
70% of mobile advertising is expected to be search-based, reports TechCrunch.
