ANA release: ANA President and CEO Testifies at Senate Hearing on Childhood Obesity
Industry good deed
The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) testified before Congress today that it acts as a "cop on the beat" of self-regulation, helping reign in child obesity. Pointing to the Ad Council, it spoke of upcoming efforts to address parental control over children's purchases, encouraging variety, balance and moderation in diet. Much more effective, though, is the industry's continued use of unattractively-thin models, recalibrating the very definition of what obesity means.
The ANA hopes to prevent the U.S. Congress from actively regulating or taxing food ads, a practice that has had little effect in mitigating the average girths of Swedes or Quebequois.
