Internet Retailer: Amazon launches two stores in beta tests, with more on the way
Amazon is at it again, adding new vertical stores to its portfolio of retail shops. Added to the roster are musical instruments and cameras. Amazon has been constantly adding product categories, some of which vary greatly enough that the firm had to first upgrade its software to handle the load. For instance, its recent addition of Healoth & Beauty - still in beta - forced the company to upgrade its databases to be able to handle more than 40 sellers proffering more than 20,000 products.
"We will continue to roll out stores," said an Amazon executive to a recent e-tailing conference, "and continue to go deeper into the areas we're already in."
