AKQA Creates Weird Retro Site for MSN

AKQA has created a retro-looking but hip site of sorts for MSN Messenger, consisting of a single page, writes ClickZ. The Way News Spreads site consists of a single, looped GIF animation better seen than described, according to the article, which describes it as a descendant of "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" album art, with all its psychedelic "busy-ness."

The only interactive element is a link to the download page for MSN Messenger. "It's completely old school. There's some magic in that," said AKQA Executive Creative Director PJ Pereira, who explained that the illustration's theme is interconnectedness - as is instant messaging's.

A banner campaign will support the site with placements across the MSN network and properties such as GameSpot, Shockwave.com and Evite. The GIF animation was created by U.K. artist Will Sweeney and depicts scores of tiny, interconnected, bizarre drawings.
