Akamai to Offer Rich Media Distribution

Technology powerhouse Akamai announced it will release a video player that eases both the publisher and user experience, reports CNET.

The tool, dubbed Stream OS, is designed to output rich media such as video in multiple formats at the same time. This would enable publishers to easily offer different video formats within customized and branded players. CBS is using this new system for its recently announced content distribution network.

Stream OS will also allow the content originator to detail how and when that content gets shared through specific DRM formatting. It also allows for easy metrics gathering and reporting, allowing publishers to see where and when their video was played.

The tool also allows for RSS syndication and inclusion in widgets that can be put on social networking profiles, so long as such usage is allowed under the DRM rules.
