Airline carriers are once again considering in-flight Internet access thanks to a new wave of technology, reports USA Today.
American Airlines, Qatar, Lufthansa and Southwest have all announced plans to offer travelers Internet-in-the-sky service. Business travelers anxious to not lose hours of connectivity have especially been clamoring for the service.
Most of the airline options use satellites to connect passengers online. That's the popular option since satellites work equally well over land or water. Other technology, such as air-to-ground connections that use cell phone towers, would only work over land.
Flyers will have to wait until 2008 to actually surf while they fly, though, as the airlines and their tech partners work out the kinks.
