Airbus has just gotten the go-ahead to allow mobile phone use in-flight for European customers, reports Yahoo Tech.
The European Aircraft Safety Agency has given Airbus approval to run an in-flight wireless operation. The OnAir would allow people to access a variety of mobile functionalities, from voice to data services, while in transit.
The service is one that the pilots can either fully disable or put in a mode that would allow for no voice but maintain text usage at any time. It's not clear where the dividing line is, geographically, for this service.
The system is currently being tested on short flights.
