Agency.com Sidesteps Subway

Agency.com has withdrawn from the review for Subway's interactive assignment.

After having invited widespread disparagement, along with some kudos, for posting a Subway pitch video on YouTube, Omnicom's Agency.com apparently withdrew when it reached the finals of a conflicting account (unnamed), reports AdWeek. Subway, which has no lead interactive shop, confirmed the withdrawal, saying it would trim the list of contenders next week.

With the release of its nearly 10-minute video documenting its response to Subway's request for information, Agency.com succeeded in creating buzz, albeit much of it controversial and negative.

In the spirit of Web2.0, Agency.com is documenting the ongoing debate on a website. "Our decision (to withdraw) was based solely on this conflict of interest," not the negative buzz, according an Agency.com rep.
