Demy's News Service: Afilias Introduces Umlauts to Dot-Info
In a long-coming first move, dot-info registrar Afilias became the first top-level domain registrar to implement usage of domain names that incorporate special characters. The umlaut is used in the German language and is now available with dot-info domain names from Afilias.
Afilias's move opens a new market for domain buyers unable to purchase special character domain names in other top-level domains, such as dot-com. The move could spark a trend to incorporate language-specific characters in other top-level domain names.
