Ad-Supported Ruckus Scores 20 Million Music Downloads Per Month

Ruckus, an ad-supported music service, is now being used on 1,000 college campuses and averaging 20 million downloads per month.

Users also average 2.5 hours per session on the Ruckus player, according to Mashable.

To support its growth, Ruckus has introduced a host of new elements to make the experience stickier for co-eds and more attractive to advertisers:

  • The ability to share top 10 lists, most played and recently played, as well as reviews
  • A Facebook widget
  • A Ruckus-to-Go portable service that sports better syncing capabilities so songs can be transferred to digital music players
  • Cultivated relationships with over 100 US colleges, though it allows anyone with a ".edu" address to sign up for free

There are currently 700,000 subscribers on the Ruckus network, according to the website. Its library consists of over 3 million music tracks and over 4,000 movies and TV programs.
