Thanksgiving is, if nothing else, a celebration of the abundance of food. The mobile space has become, if nothing else, a celebration of the ability to create an app for just about every need and event. Here, the twain meet.
Food Thanks
A group of farmers and ranchers is cultivating a social media campaign to initiate meaningful conversations about food with Americans on Twitter, Facebook, blogs and beyond, organized by the AgChat Foundation at Food Thanks.
"For farmers on the go, social media is a great way to connect with consumers," says Kansas farmer Darin Grimm of the AgChat Foundation. "We're hoping to see everyone from chefs to foodies to farmers using the #foodthanks hashtag."
The Professional Chef
Created by John Wiley & Sons and the Culinary Institute of America, this $50 app was launched in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. It contains 1,200 pages of cooking information,100 videos, 850 recipes, 175 figures, and 750 photographs of food.
Thanksgiving Menu Maker from Fine Cooking
The interactive Menu Maker lets users design their Thanksgiving dinner menu, by choosing a turkey, side dishes, starters, and desserts. It then spits out a customized shopping list and timeline. It offers more than 75 of the magazine's favorite Thanksgiving recipes, along with a shopping list and schedule.
