Almost Half of US Households Own A Tablet

      Notes: Some 45% of households own a tablet as of late January, up 6% points from the comparable period last year, and 16% plan to purchase one this year. Ownership of smartphones also continues to grow, reaching 64% of US households (up from 58%) and for the first time exceeding basic cell phones. Slightly more than one-quarter (27%) of US households plan to purchase smartphones this year, making them the top CE product (along with headphones) planned for purchase. Among emerging technologies, the CEA notes that fewer than 2% of US households own a smart watch, but that figure is expected to triple by next year.
