2004 Sees Last-Minute E-Commerce Surge

DM News reports that e-commerce showed a last-minute boost in sales at the end of the holiday season, with comScore figures revealing $15.8 billion in sales, up about 29 percent over 2003. In-store pickup, gift cards and better delivery operations all contributed to the online channel being able to take advantage of last-minute shopping urges. comScore's Dan Hess said the shopping carts appeared more diverse this year, noting that researchers "continue to see consumers increasingly buying more traditional products such as home and garden and furniture and appliances online."
